Education

Our education team supports schools, higher and further education organisations – both public and private – across the UK.

We can help you with any employment, property, corporate & commercial, intellectual property, student matters or dispute issue. So, whether you’re moving to new premises, merging with other educational establishments, recouping money, disciplining a member of staff or developing your people, we can help.

We have a fully-integrated management consultancy, Capital People Consultants, that can help you with human resources, health and safety and occupational health, as well as providing training.

We’re on the National Procurement Service Solicitors’ Services, Crescent Purchasing Consortium and London Universities Purchasing Consortium legal panels, so you have easy access to our services.

  • We can work with you at all stages of the employment life-cycle, from recruitment to termination. This may be advising you on your day to day HR issues, like pay and conditions or pensions, or on more sensitive situations like managing disciplinaries or safeguarding issues. We can also help with Employment Tribunals.

  • We have developed a comprehensive legal and hr service for schools looking to opt-out of local authority service level agreements. The retainer includes SEN / ALN advice, advice on admissions and exclusions and regulatory advice. We can also provide occupational health, learning and development and fire safety services. A fixed monthly fee provides access to telephone, email and face to face advice, as well as document drafting and review. We are members of the National Procurement Service (“NPS”) framework, meaning that schools can benefit from low costs without having to go out to tender.

Our employment law training courses have also been tailored to the needs of schools. Our Employment Law Diploma and GDPR training is particularly popular amongst school leaders and business managers.

  • We have significant experience of advising on Special Educational Needs (and now Additional Learning Needs) provision.

We have trained clients on the new Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018 which became law on 24 January 2018.

    • Roles and responsibilities of SENCOs (now ALNCOs)
    • Duties of Governing Bodies
    • Appeals
