Examples of some of the projects that we have delivered include:

    • Strategic advice on designing, planning and implementing a change management programme at a large retail distribution warehouse involving substantial changes in shift patterns and working hours for 8,000 employees.
    • Advising on the sale, by a large retailer, of one if its brands, ensuring the TUPE implications were properly dealt with and practically implemented.
    • Advising on the exit of senior management, often director level with shareholdings.
    • Managing and implementing a TUPE consultation process and a redundancy programme for Healthspan


    • Successfully defended one of the first major disability discrimination by association claims brought by an employee against a large retailer
    • Managing the Employment Tribunal case loads of large retailers across the UK including representing cases at Tribunal, initiating and conducting mediation and negotiating settlement via ACAS.
    • Advising on the legal implications of ending agreements with commercial agents in the UK and across Europe and defending claims brought by agents often involving cross-jurisdictional issues.
    • Advising on the enforcement of restrictive covenants against a former senior designer who joined a competing business


    • Working with Virgin Holidays to deliver their Emerging Leaders programme. Capital were involved in all aspects of the programme including designing the assessment criteria and providing personal development plans and coaching to the successful candidates.     • Providing training to HR teams of large retailers on all aspects of employment law and providing training to operational managers on matters such as diversity in the workplace


    • Advising a Spanish retailer when it first opened stores in the UK including drafting all of their HR documentation, as well as devising an effective organisational management structure to maximise their delivery capability, involving roles from assistant store manager to country manager.
    • Designing and implementing a universally applicable Staff Handbook and universally valid template contracts of employment for use by a retailer across its stores in the UK, Europe and the US.
    • Providing expert Occupational Health, Health & Safety, Environmental & Fire Risk advice, assessment and training to the likes of Lego, Tata Steel, Admiral and British Airways.
    • Providing ad hoc advice on day-to-day issues including disciplinary & grievance matters, holiday pay, taxation, flexible working requests etc.
    • Coordinating local advice for managing staff at overseas concessions, branches and warehouses
    • Substantially reducing the sickness absence rate at a large retailer through designing and delivering a training programme to educate and build the confidence of store managers.
