Marlies was born in Germany, and moved permanently to Wales in 1989.
Marlies qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and undertakes a wide variety of corporate and commercial work, predominantely with an international or cross border angle, including:
- company and business sales, acquisitions and mergers
- corporate and commercial cross border transactions
- corporate finance
- raising finance on German capital markets
- joint ventures
- banking work
- venture capital
- corporate recovery and insolvency.
In 2013, Marlies was appointed to the board of Consulegis, the international network of independent law firms. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees at the Sherman Cymru Theatre.
Marlies frequently talks to students of Welsh schools about the benefits of modern foreign languages in the workplace, as part of Capital’s collaboration with CILT.
Aside from her legal career, Marlies also holds a masters degree and PhD in Archaeology, speaks German and French fluently, and reads Italian and Spanish.
